What the qualification covers

The VTCT Level 2 Certificate and Level 3 Diploma in Nail Treatments (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a nail technician.

 

If you are looking to embark on a career as a nail technician, working either in a salon, nail bar, cruise ship or would like to start your own business, our course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, practical skills and industry-required qualifications to be able do this with confidence.

Throughout this qualification you will develop:

Your knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety

 Anatomy and Physiology

 Client Care and Communication

 

Which will develop interpersonal skills that will assist you in communicating effectively with clients. 

​

You will also develop technical skills which will enable you to prepare, maintain and enhance the nails and cuticles on the hands and feet.

​

This is the highest level vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a nail technician.

  • UV20471 Provide pedicure treatments

  • UV30405 Apply and maintain nail enhancements

  • UV30468 Client care and communication in beauty-related industries

  • UV30491 Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon

  • UV30493 Maintaining personal health and wellbeing

  • UV20490 Display stock to promote sales in a salon

  • UV20492 Promote products and services to clients in a salon

  • UV30429 Enhance nails using electric fires

  • UV30475 Design and apply nail art

Qualification Structure

Mandatory Units:

  • Care of the nails on the hand including cuticle work, hand massage and application of nail varnish.

  • Care of the nails on the feet including cuticle work, foot massage and application of nail varnish.

  • Applying and maintaining nail enhancements – Liquid and Powder, Hard Gel and Fibre Glass Wraps.

  • Designing and applying Nail Art

  • Electric Drill / E-file, filling techniques care and maintenance of unit.

The Main Skills The Learner Will Perform Are:

  • Care of the nails on the hand including cuticle work, hand massage and application of nail varnish.

  • Care of the nails on the feet including cuticle work, foot massage and application of nail varnish.

  • Applying and maintaining nail enhancements – Liquid and Powder, Hard Gel and Fibre Glass Wraps.

  • Designing and applying Nail Art

  • Electric Drill / E-file, filling techniques care and maintenance of unit.

What Could This Qualification Lead To?

The VTCT Level 2 and 3 qualification will prepare you for employment as a nail technician. You will also be eligible to join a professional associations and gain insurance as a nail technician. Career opportunities as a nail technician exist in a variety of contexts, including:

  • Working in a nail or beauty salon.

  • Working in a retail concession nail bar.

  • Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings.

  • Owning your own nail bar.

Who Supports This Qualification?

This qualification is based on the beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s leading professional association, the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing you for a career as a nail technician. Holders of this qualification are eligible to become a professional member of BABTAC.
